Songsan Pear

Songsan Pear

Songsan Pear appears in the literature from the Three Hans in Korea, based on which it has come to be believed that pears had been produced earlier. In the Goryeo period, pear farming had been promoted, and at the end of the Joseon period, “Cheongsil Pear,” whose taste was well known, had been farmed much in the Yangju region, which is believed to be the current Uijeongbu, near Jungnangcheon Stream, offering very rich soil.

Characteristics

The soil in the Songsan Pear growing region is sand loam. Deep in the soil, the ground allows easy drainage, offering the best place for growing pears. As it is located inland, the temperature difference is huge, which results in high sweetness and excellent taste. Facing southeast, the orchards have lots of sunshine, resulting in superior color and gloss. Having an excellent water supply system and low-temperature storage facilities, the region can deliver fresh pears with excellent delicacy anytime.
